I am not a vegetable gardener this week but working in a friends garden. I come down four times a year and help out, we planted this garden together twelve years ago and make changers and clean it up. I have enjoyed its development over the years.
Month: June 2017
Soft fruit
Sometimes things ripen at a time when you have a lot on. This week we have a lot in the fruit cage, because I have not got time and it is too hot I am freezing the soft fruit and will make it into jam in the autumn.
Mr Badger
It is that time of the year when the fruit has become ripe in the fruit cage and so Mr Badger breaks in at night to eat what he can. Because of this we have picked as much ripe fruit as was there. I will now freeze it till we have the time to make jam.
Kale
We got the Kale in the ground. With it so hot the less that we have next door in pots the better. Of course Edward and I made sure it was covered before we finished for the day. The pigeons will not be having it for breakfast. Now it is getting a good watering.
Heat
I did not move to England to be working in this heat but work we did and the gourds are now planted and looking happy on the compost heaps. With enough water and heat they are going to do well I think.
German
I was very happy to open post to find a copy of the cookbook in German, a very nice surprise. Not being someone who can read German I am not too sure how it is in German but hope some of our visitors will enjoy a copy in their own language.
Edward the Great
It is hard to be in the kitchen for the week when I know there is so much to do out in the garden. Today I could have cried with joy when I went up to the vegetable garden and saw just how hard Edward had worked to bring order back to the garden. Thank you so much Edward.
This week
We have a symposium on this week. All the staff here play a part to give the group a special week. My role this week is to cook and I have found our cook book very useful, I want to cook as much as I can from it but also bringing in new things.
Edward
Edward and I had a great day today. We are now up to date with the planting in the vegetable garden. Of course I have a long list still to work through but the pumpkins and tomatoes are in the ground. Just hope Thumper does not eat them.
De Wiersse
It was great to have a night in the Netherlands. The garden at De Wiersse is my favourite garden in the world. It is a garden that has been gardened with love from Laura and Peter for so long, you can really feel it. The kitchen garden is a truly special space. I have also never seen the garden look as great as it is now, Laura is pushing the garden to a new level.
